But legitimate concerns of dealing with a CBRNE terrorist attack or some natural disasters (including some pandemic scenarios) will probably be enough to keep the mission permanent even under Obama. Note that it's hardly a large enough unit to even begin to deal with massive unrest across the nation. It wouldn't help much for dealing with Matt's dark paranoias of "blacks going crazy" whether Obama had won or lost. (I'd hate to live in Matt's mind full time, there must be a lot of other fears there too). Nor for suppressing masses of "patriots" who imagine having a gun in the house means they can keep the government from becoming oppressive. For those things it would take a large distributed force which would take a long time to mobilize. This particular brigade is for quick deployment for spot application in one place. Like a nuke, or hurricane, for example. And those tasks can also include elements of crowd control, roadblocks, etc. I will be more concerned if there are at some point plans for massive mobilization of the military against distributed civilian targets. With the Obama lead in the opinion polls, if he loses, there will be a lot of angry people suspecting tampering with the results, and if he wins there will be euphoria and likely mayhem as people celebrate.
